Speaking of the holiday weekend...if you are headed to a BBQ or party for the Memorial Day holiday and stumped for what to bring, I've got your answer right here. This might quite possibly be the easiest recipe I've ever posted on the blog. In fact, calling it a "recipe" might be generous. But people are always asking me how to make this, so I decided why not post it on the blog.
This is a carryover from my college days at WSU. (Mom, this is what my college education bought me.) I'm pretty sure this was a party punch dreamed up by some frat guy in an evil scheme to get girls drunk. Well, guess what? It worked. (Hence the name).
Just for the record, I did not name this drink. It really is called "Hop, Skip and Go Naked." (Or Skip 'n Go for short). If there is any question why it got this name, just look at the ingredients: Beer, Lemonade, Vodka. It sounds like a ridiculous and weird combination, but for some reason it just works. It's dangerously strong because you really just taste the sweetness from the lemonade. You will literally be hopping to grab yourself more, skipping around from your happy drunkeness and if you drink too much...well, you know where I'm going with this. (On a related note, some people refer to these as Pink Panty Droppers for similar reasons).
As for the ingredients....dump in two cans of frozen lemonade concentrate. I like pink or raspberry lemonade. I made this in a cute pitcher, but as my fellow WSU alum Dawn pointed out, this was often made in a large garbage can during college. (Oh, the good ol' days).
Don't bother with expensive vodka or beer. An adequate vodka and crappy light beer will do just fine. It's sort of what adds to the charm of this drink. You'll need an entire fifth of vodka.
As for the beer, I use about 5 of them. Use six if you don't like it as sweet or you want more fizz. (And yes, I know how ridiculous it sounds to say "5-6 beers, to taste" as if it's salt or hot sauce). But seriously, taste it after 5 and add one more if you want.
And that's it! Give it a stir until the lemonade melts and serve. Don't bother with lemon slices. I just did that to make it look pretty in the photo. And as always, please drink responsibly. Have a safe and fun Memorial Day!

I think it's best when served out of a huge garbage can.....at least that's how the frat guys id it at WSU :-)
ReplyDeleteOh wow the good ole days. We called it "Hunch Punch" when i was a young adult.
DeleteThis may be one of my favorite cocktail recipes ever! Gotta love the college concoctions! Normally my sister and I just make lemoneer's, which is bud light and lemonade on ice. I will have to add the vodka to zip it up! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI thought of you as I made myself one of these at a recent 1-year-old birthday party (really, all kids' birthday parties should have these for the adults). When I mentioned the name, I was met with a few confused stares. What? Pour me another and watch what happens.
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of Memorial Day or the 4th in San Diego...except instead of glasses we used Gatorade bottles. Classy. :)
ReplyDeleteso classy :)
DeleteGo Cougs!
ReplyDeleteGet out! I've been looking for this for years, since I visited a friend at his college in FL. They called it panty droppers! I knew it was simple all I could remember was it had juice and the crappiest vodka and beer. Will be making this soon.
ReplyDeleteI don't happen to agree that Bud Light is a "crappy" beer.
ReplyDeleteThen you don't know beer.
DeleteAgreed
DeleteTouche. More pissy than crappy I guess. Ha
DeleteTouche. More pissy than crappy I guess. Ha
DeleteI've known this as pink (or whatever color your lemonade/frozen fruit mixture is) panty droppers! Didn't know it was called something elae
ReplyDeleteThis is great! We used to use the apple flavored concentrate, with a bit of fruit punch as well. I would add a bit of Monster energy drink (green) to my cup for flavor and to energize while drinking (even more energy!).
ReplyDeleteTip for college students: If you are serving this out of a trash can or other large container you can go with a plastic bottle for the vodka, cut it in half, then use the top half upside down as a way to pour it into cups to serve. It stops people from reaching their hands and dirty cups into the drink. Also don't forget ice!
its called Skippy
ReplyDeleteMake it with rum and Grand Valley State University Alumni call it a "Swish n' Go."
ReplyDeleteHow many people will it serve ?
ReplyDeleteJungle juice!!! Yummy!
ReplyDeleteWe call this "pink panty pull-down" in the dirty South. Go GSU eagles!
ReplyDeleteTrying this for my birthday on Friday! It looks delicious. Thanks for sharing! =]
ReplyDeleteCan I use regular beer instead of light beer??
ReplyDeleteLight is preferred but I'm sure regular would be fine!
DeleteWhat beer would you suggest instead of bud light? I'm from Australia and can't find it here.
ReplyDeleteshould note that if have any left over, it doesnt seem to keep till next day very well
ReplyDeleteYou're all wrong! The word "hop" was never involved. The original Skip & Go Naked (or "Skip", as it was affectionately known) was created by the 901 Club, a bar near the USC campus in Los Angeles. It consisted of beer, gin & sweet & sour mix & was served over ice cubes in a tall slender glass. I can't begin to tell you how many of these I consumed back in the 60s when I was a USC student. As with many drinks, variations have been created over the years, but nothing beats the original - beer, gin & sweet & sour. YUM!
ReplyDeleteI just made this for the first time "by the glass" and it's awesome! My husband even like it! I used 4 oz vodka, 4 oz frozen raspberry lemonade and beer to taste. Love it!
ReplyDeleteLOL I've known it to be panty droppers, paint can, jungle juice and a few others I cant remember. Regardless, damn good drink, but it can sneak up on ya! I like to use flavored vodka as well, like lemon, or even something really different like blueberry. It adds some nice flavor!
ReplyDeleteThis is similar to the beer margaritas that my friend used to make when she went to college (not WSU) - except you use limeade and add sprite. I'll have to try this for a change.
ReplyDeleteWhat flavor vodka is good with this drink?
ReplyDeleteMaking this tomorrow for a sports themed baby shower and I can't wait. (We had a vendor guy famous for screaming "lemonade" at our baseball games.) It's been years since I had it. The first time, it was called "beergarita" which doesn't make much sense since it doesn't have tequila in it. Since then, I only hear it called Skip and Go Naked. Either way, it's a delicious drink and I can't wait to have it again. :-)
ReplyDeleteHow many does this recipe usually serve?
ReplyDeleteHow would you cut this down to make a smaller batch? How many would this recipe serve?
ReplyDeleteI would just cut the whole thing in half. (1 can of lemonade, fill that can up with vodka, + 2-3 beers). A commenter above made hers by the glass with this recipe:
Delete4 oz vodka, 4 oz frozen raspberry lemonade and beer to taste. Love it!
Haha so funny seeing all the different names for the same thing! We called this Porch Crawler but I'm in the sticks! Never thought to use raspberry lemonade instead of regular!
ReplyDeleteThe "strip and go naked" recipe I use is one can of pink lemonade, then use the empty can to measure one can of beer, one can of rose wine and one can of vodka. Makes up one pitcher of juice.
ReplyDeleteI used to make this all the time in college too. We called it "Skippy's" and my recipe was pretty similar, but we mostly did everything to taste. The taster the better :)
ReplyDeleteWe do this at my college, but we use a handle of vodka, a 30 of beer, and 5 or 6 lemonade concentrates. Mix it in a big drink dispenser like they use for sports and call it "Summer Brew." It's great.
ReplyDeleteIt is funny to read all the different names! Totally trying this today!! :-) thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteHow much does this make
ReplyDeleteAlways called it hop skip on northern NY. Also our recipe was; a 30 of keystone light, handle of Popov (or other cheap plastic bottle vodka), 2 liter of sprite, can of lemon concentrate, can of lime concentrate.
ReplyDeleteWe did not use the vodka and simply called it beer-ade!
ReplyDeleteWanting to make 2 gallons for a party. How much of each would I need?
ReplyDeletegreat quick and sure way to get wasted and wake up with enormous headache :D
ReplyDeleteI'm planning to make this on my mom's birthday and I would like to know how many would this recipe serve people? Thanks
ReplyDeleteDepends on how big your cups are... but I would say this probably has about 8-10 servings, so you may want to make a bigger batch if there's a lot of people.
DeleteDid you use the entire 750mL bottle of vodka?
ReplyDeleteHello! Yes I did.
Deleteive made this a lot over the years. we refer to it as "Porch Crawler" make it in a cooler using 2 cans of concentrate, bag of ice, 40 oz of vodka and 24 beers. if you want it a little sweeter pour a bottle of 7up/sprite into it!
ReplyDeletemaking it in a bit! I dont cut the lemonade with water right?
ReplyDeleteSorry for the late reply but no! The vodka and beer essentially replace the water 😳
DeleteThis recipe has been around for about 50 years, I'm 53 and my parents and my aunt's and uncle's made this when I was little. I had remembered my mom making it, so I started making it after I was 18. It is really good party drink.
ReplyDeleteOmg! We used to make the all the time at WSU! Garbage can and all! We always added a 2. Liter of sprite...now i wonder why! Getting together with the girls this weekend after almost 25 years... this is at the top of the list. So timely to find this!
ReplyDeleteVery late in responding here... but that's awesome!!
Delete1) Is there any way to keep this good til the next day? 2) Could the lemonade be made with water, and all three things be added per glass rather than as a pitcher?
ReplyDeletePerhaps just wait to add the beer til serving??
DeleteDoes the kind of beer matter? Or is there any kind that you think might not be as good?
ReplyDeleteI would just stick to "light" beers so it doesn't overpower the taste.
DeleteI believe this drink was once called "Strip and go Naked" In the 70's
ReplyDeleteA girlfriend of mine has made these for years. She calls them Sip n' Strip. lol
ReplyDeleteHAHAHA that works too
DeleteI just remembered pink panty droppers and went looking for the recipe...of COURSE I find a fellow coug!
ReplyDeletehahahaha GO COUGS!! :)
